Detox Diet, Am I Doing the Right Thing?
Some medical practitioners condemn the idea that our bodies need detoxification. They claim that the body naturally detoxifies itself without special diets or supplements. To some extent the body does have it's own elimination and detoxification processes. However we live in a time unlike any time in our history. Science has produced thousands of chemicals and additives that have made their way into the food chain.
In an attempt to make farming land as productive as possible farmers use chemical fertilizer and pesticides. Then when the food is harvested it is treated again so that it will look good and last as long as possible. Then it is stored for a time or processed into the products we see on the supermarket shelves, most of which contain artificial colors, additives and preservatives. If our great grandfathers or possible even grandfathers were alive today they would hardly recognize the way we eat.
It makes sense that our bodies would have trouble coping with the unnatural way we eat even without the pollution from the environment. This situations has been recognized by alternative health practitioners for some time and is beginning to be recognized by integrated medicine. True no there are no official studies to show the results of detoxification but then again there is no money to be made in a new wonder drug.
In the end you will have to decide for your self, if detoxification makes sense to you. If you think that it does, try a gentle detox for yourself. Your body will tell you if this works and if detoxing makes a difference.
